Would someone let me know if the President actually said something interesting, or important tonight? I withstood the shaking, and nose bleeds for about 10 minutes while he yammered on about "tur'erists" and how we're going to keep fighting them over there befor they come over here. And as always, he tossed up 911, to remind us how scared we should be.
Friends and neighbors, I want to bring something to your attention, if you have not heard already. Public Broadcasting, both television and radio, is under threat. For some of you, this may not mean alot. You don't watch PBS. And there are alot of cable channels now, such as Discovery, and National Geographic where you can find documentaries, and educational TV. But bear in mind that PBS still has Sesame Street, and other programs that it's far better to park your children in front of than Ninja Turtles. PBS still has alot of the smaller, local documentaries, most of which are *funded* through PBS befor they make it to Discovery Channel. PBS showcases local talent, local intrest, and local artists.
PBS is where I first saw Dr. Who, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. They still purchase quality BBC shows that you can't see anywhere else unless you pay for the extra BBC channel. PBS is *important*.
So, I am asking those that agree with me to just take alittle time to write their reps, asking them not to cut PBS.
What sort of world is it when our bombs are getting smarter than our kids, and the goverment wants to cut off PBS.
[EDIT]
jillykillroy brought up the also good point that when someone doesn't have cable, they can still usually get PBS. While I do believe TV is a luxury, and not a right, I think it is good to have something of reasonable quality to watch when you don't have cable. Also PBS and NPR are both good alternatives to the corprate, commercially owned larger networks.

Ok, I just want to say that I'm getting sick of those folks threatening to leave the country. I'm with
zorathenne on this. If you really want to go, go, and thank you so much for leaving me with your mess to clean up. Don't come back when America sucks less because people like me stayed and made it a cool country again. Seriously. I was trying not to get pissed off. And for those of you that were just blowing off steam, ok, no problem. I can understand alot of venting. Just know that threatening to leave the country isn't helpful. It's like threatening to sell a house because you don't like the paint. Instead of just taking the time to repaint, one would sell a house, buy a new house with all it's own problems, and *then* have to redo *it*.
Just GRR.
Instead of saying things like that, how about trying to identify the actual enemy, and vowing to make them more aware next go round.

The SUV Right. Don't laugh. Did you ever use the term "Freedom Fries?" Thought it was harmless, didn't you?

I didn't lose.
Nov. 3rd, 2004 04:37 pmI'm a democrat, and I voted for John Kerry. I listened to the vitrol until I was sick. I absolutely *hated* the vicious ad campaigns. They gave me no real information about why I should vote for anyone. "Vote for me 'cause I'm against terrorism, and I'm a Christian, and you guys are christians, and that guy over there is *Catholic* and will let Gay people marry and make out in the front yard!" or "Vote for me, Bush is a liar, and I'm not Bush, (sorry, I lie too..)"
I didn't vote for Kerry because I liked him. I am a Democrat, and I didn't like Bush.
That being said I would like to say this: Today, post election, I have seen alot of people going off. I knew they would. They were going off last week about Bush. I'll assume most of this is venting, and try to ignore it. For those that might be serious about firebombing things...SEEK HELP. Those of you talking about moving, befor you make that choice a definate, go *talk* to people from that country who live here now. Ask them why. Canada is really cold, and if you think our taxes are bad...Who do you think pays for all their great health care?
Anyway the point of my little post is this. Bush may be our president, and most of the people I know didn't vote for him, but after afew days I hope the depression lifts, because while 51-55% of Americans may have wanted Bush, that leaves almost half of America who didn't. That's half of America who are *watching* his every move now. That's half of America who will remember shit when the next House and Senate race comes open. So all these Republican politicians know they have to keep a crowd of potentially disgruntled people happy.
I haven't lost. Neither have you. Until a man with a US flag patch on his uniform, from a sanctioned military force puts a gun to your head, you haven't lost. Keep joining. Keep talking. Keep having fun!
I refer back to my trip to Washington, link to be posted below, and I know why, and how, I like to fight.

Well..I voted weeks ago. Horay absentee ballot. Now it's finally all going to be over. No matter who wins there will be riots in the streets. I'm hiding. I'm grouch because my tv show choices are limited. I don't really *want* to watch two hours of..."This state is Kerry", "This one goes to Bush" Ugh! So tonight will probably be a movie night. Or catching up on Tivo. I wish we would have a pres tonight, but I'm not hopeful. They are so close in popularity that it'll be a fight to the finish, and probably for several weeks. We'll get a president for Christmas. Hopefully a new one.
Topic of the Day
Oct. 27th, 2004 09:23 pmHmm...Wow. Most of the people on my friends list have heard about the journal threatening the president. I've read the links, and seen the screencap of the original post. All I can say is poor kid, and poor Secret Service guys. For those of you who *didn't* know, yes the Secret Service *has* to investigate *any* potential threat that is reported. No, they don't have the luxury of going, "Well this kid's just blowing off steam." They find that out when they go to meet the potential threat. The vast majority I am sure are steam blowers. Most of the rest are your mentally ill who are harmless. But see...Here is the deal. There are people in this country who genuinely believe that the president, no matter who it is, is sending people into their house to put transmitters in their teeth. There are people who believe in saving unborn fetuses so strongly that they'll murder an abortion doctor, or bomb a clinic with people inside of it. These people generally wouldn't write about it in a blog, but who knows...they *could*. So I'm not going to bash the young lady for saying what she said. If you read my post about my last experience in a theater, I guess I'm glad that AMC doesn't have secret service. People get angry, and they say things. I'm not going to bash the Secret Service. They did their jobs. I will make just afew little points.
1) There are limits to Freedom of Speech. You are not supposed to harrass anyone constantly and verbally. You are not supposed to commit Libel, or Slander. These are legal terms. Libel is when you print something untrue for the purpose of harming another's reputation, or livelihood. It is different from an opinion. Example: If I said Pete was a redneck dumbass, that would be opinion. If I said he raped donkies in mexico, and ran a nun pornography ring, and I was *serious*, that would be libel. If I said I had pictues of him in women's clothing..that would be true! God Bless America.
2) The single greatest threat to Freedom of Speech is not anyone in another country. Until someone gets the balls to actually send *their own* planes over, and actually *bomb* us the way we bomb other people, we are the single greatest threat to our own freedoms. When you tell you representatives that they can take freedoms from you to "keep you safe", then you have to live with it, or find new reps to give it back to you. If that process chaps your ass, then don't give up your freedom. If you are too lazy to care, then you don't deserve freedom.
3) And this just addresses the spacific incident of the girls lj. To the asshole who reported her; shame on you! Shame On You. Not only were you an underhanded little skeeze, because no one with half a brain would have read that post and believe that kid really wanted to threaten the president. You weren't a concerned citizen. You were just a shitheel. And not only should you be ashamed for making a poor girl, a friend of a friend, if not your friend, miserable and impacting her life until she dies, but MY MONEY went towards paying the cost of that visit. Do you know what Secret Service make? I don't, but I hope it's a good living. And I don't mind if .002 cents of my money goes towards paying a person to shove the president into a car when some jerk is shooting at him, but I resent that I helped pay for them to go bother some kid on an internet rant. If you had a decent bone in your body, you would fess up and APPOLOGIZE. Not just to her, but to the whole Live Journal community, because now everyone is scared, thinking there are people in the Pentagon reading blogs, looking for words like Bomb, and Aryan. (I'll let you know if they are...or if this is my last post...been nice knowing all of you, and big hugs!)

A Point to Ponder:
Oct. 25th, 2004 08:39 pmWhether you are for Bush, or Kerry, the ultimate point of this little movie is kinda sad.

Interesting News Post
Oct. 17th, 2004 05:07 pmThis is a slightly local to me news story that I found interesting, and I thought made an interesting point.
Tampa Newspaper Withholds Endorsement
TAMPA, Fla. - In a break with tradition, The Tampa Tribune, a Republican standard-bearer for decades, refused Sunday to endorse anyone for president for the first time since 1964.
The newspaper has solidly supported every Republican presidential nominee since 1952, except for Barry Goldwater, but withheld its endorsement this year, calling the decision "achingly difficult" and blaming shortcomings of both candidates.
Editors instead published an unusual full-page editorial with harsh criticism of the war in Iraq and President Bush's economic policies.
"President Bush told us that he was 'a uniter, not a divider,' but shortly after taking office, his administration took a sharp right turn that has divided this country," the editorial said. The newspaper said it was "deeply disappointed" with Bush on federal spending, the budget deficit and the recession.
But the paper was also skeptical of Democratic nominee Sen. John Kerry, saying his "undistinguished Senate record stands at odds with our conservative principles" and his positions on Iraq "have been difficult to distinguish or differentiate."
"We're not sure what Kerry thinks. He supported the war in Iraq, then opposed adequately funding the troops. His plan to secure the peace in Iraq is to cozy up to European countries that don't have our interests at heart," the editorial said.
IMHO: I don't think Kerry actually intends to "cozy up" to European countries without our intrest at heart. Makes him sound like some sort of sleezy Natasha from a spy film. I don't think Kerry is a double agent. I do think he wants to hear more opinions, and have abit more global approval befor he goes galavanting like a cowboy into other countries. But still, if you are a Republican, or a Democrat, points to ponder.

Not a good day...
Aug. 13th, 2004 01:18 amThis was not a good day for gay people, and that's sad to me. I'm very pro gay, though ironicly, not being gay myself. I generally am for anything that doesn't add to overpopulation. I would be bi, but I find myself at odds with women frequently, so have not found the right woman yet. I fancy that I am a black gay man trapped in the body of a white girl.
Anyway, A higher court in Cali went and annuled all the marrages performed in San Francisco. I'm sure this will be a headache for the Cali Court system as many lawsuits are lobbed in. So instead of getting taxable income from the various enterprizes, such as buying and owning property, and businesses, they will be *paying* money to defend themselves. I suppose the principle is worth it.
Also the governor of New Jersey resigns thanks to being outed over an extra marital gay affair. While President Clinton's impeachment over affairs still looms in people's memories, do you think that any other gov's would resign if caught having affairs? It's also sad that the major reason this man must resign is the fact that the ex blackmailed him. Nice...Classy move there. I am constantly stunned by the quixotic nature of political loyalty. Clinton is ousted for a blowjob. Mayor Marion Barry of Washington is reelected after being caught on video tape smoking crack, and canoodling with what he thought was a hooker.
So here is a quote to ponder, thanks to the ex Governor.
"At a point in every person's life, one has to look deeply into the mirror of one's soul and decide one's unique truth in the world, not as we may want to see it or hope to see it, but as it is."

This looks really good.
Jul. 6th, 2004 02:02 pmI came across this link while looking at the news about John Kerry selecting John Edwards as his running mate. (It's so crazy, it just might work. Though at this point I would have voted for Kerry if he'd selected Jerry Springer as his running mate.) Anyway, this preveiw looks *very...very* good.
