Friends and neighbors, I want to bring something to your attention, if you have not heard already. Public Broadcasting, both television and radio, is under threat. For some of you, this may not mean alot. You don't watch PBS. And there are alot of cable channels now, such as Discovery, and National Geographic where you can find documentaries, and educational TV. But bear in mind that PBS still has Sesame Street, and other programs that it's far better to park your children in front of than Ninja Turtles. PBS still has alot of the smaller, local documentaries, most of which are *funded* through PBS befor they make it to Discovery Channel. PBS showcases local talent, local intrest, and local artists.
PBS is where I first saw Dr. Who, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. They still purchase quality BBC shows that you can't see anywhere else unless you pay for the extra BBC channel. PBS is *important*.
So, I am asking those that agree with me to just take alittle time to write their reps, asking them not to cut PBS.
What sort of world is it when our bombs are getting smarter than our kids, and the goverment wants to cut off PBS.
[EDIT]
jillykillroy brought up the also good point that when someone doesn't have cable, they can still usually get PBS. While I do believe TV is a luxury, and not a right, I think it is good to have something of reasonable quality to watch when you don't have cable. Also PBS and NPR are both good alternatives to the corprate, commercially owned larger networks.
