Well..I blame my mother. She named the hurricane, "Mean Jeanne". It it my theory that all hurricanes you can nickname will be bad. Think of it. Granny Frannie. Ivan the Terrible. Now Meanie Jeannie. Thanks. And thank you, weather people who come up with names. And they can't name them cute, innoculous names like, "Fluffy".

Just when the landlord, Sam, was going to take the boards off the windows, thereby giving my hubby much needed sunlight, Jeannie is coming right up the coast. *seethe* What? Is God going after trailer parks? If so..RUN AMIE, RUN! I wish Brian could join me this weekend. I miss my sweety.

That about sums it up for me. Brian and Rachelle came up for the weekend. We hung out in a hotel room to give Mom her space. We went to visit Julius, my brother in law. He's doing ok, though he has a crack ho for a room mate. She's a cousin. I really enjoyed seeing Brian, who I had missed terribly since the storm, and seeing Rachelle again. It was decided for a variety of factors that I should stay up here. First, just easier if Ivan decides to be unpredictable as the last two were. Second, we have no hot water, and the landlord has to do alot of stuff to the apt to get it back in good shape. Did I mention there was water damage? Third, Mom wants me to help with her home improvement projects. I don't mind, and hey, she's paid more than my Hot Topic job has in a month. She's also talked about giving me more if needed, and helping me to set up a pet shoot for Christmas in November, so I suppose if worse comes to worst in my job thing, I'll still have money.

I still miss Brian though. And I still can't quite shake this feeling at the bottom of my tummy, like dread. I guess I'm just too used to the rug being yanked out.

It's been a bittersweet weekend. There is not alot quite like the sensation of evacuating from your home, literally evacuating, to go do something you normally find pleasurable, and exciting. It's rough to basicly flee to a vacation. Sounds odd, doesn't it? I had to leave Brian, and while I was having a good time, the whole time I was thinking, "This would be better if he was here. I miss him." Sometimes there was even guilt over the fact that I was having fun, and knew he wasn't. He was in the storm. Well, knowing Brian, maybe he was having alittle fun. He likes exciting events. My mind almost never left him, and our cats, and the crabs. I was stationed in basicly the ajacent room of the party room. There was a suite. There were fun, lovely, facinating people most of the time in the main room, and I did not have a huge desire to mingle alot. The fact that this is not unusual not withstanding, I just wished Brian was around to meet them too. Next year, for certain.

everything else. )

Well I made it to Atlanta, safe and sound. Vernard has promised to take care of me. I have discovered that Shelia is supposed to be at Dragoncon this year. Joy! By the grace of God we will simply miss each other. If not, I shall ignore her utterly.

I miss Brian. I miss my kitties. I miss my crabbies.

The trip with the kender was long, but not as bad as it could have been.

Well, I will dutifully report my freaky incident today. This probably has to do with the fact that recently I got my hair cut way short. Also today I didn't really bother to style it. Brian compaired my hairstyle to certain female officers on COPS. And today I really got it good. A lesbian checked me out. How did I know? Well the rainbow rings on a dogtag chain was a hint. She asked me if I knew where any good "underground clubs" were. Hmmm....

I don't really mind that I was checked out...But it certainly made Brian's day to hear about it. I believe the term is "hooted" with laughter.

Today was not my best day. I just don't react well to not enough sleep, and being kept awake by pounding and banging. But the house is now mostly boarded up. Sam, the landlord is planning to cut the power completely.

The way things stand now, I'll know by noon if I am headed up to Atlanta. I'll have a little pack, and a pillow. The house is boarded up. The power is going to be cut. Brian is staying at the TV station because he'll get double pay. He plans to use it to travel to New Jersey to see a wrestling show. A little vacation for him too. The kitties will stay here and I will have faith that they will be safe in the boarded up second floor.

My prayers go out to all of Florida right now, of course. Particularly tonight I hope that all my friends, Rini, Jesse, Amie, Hanna, Rachelle and Ernesto all come through ok. I hope my new aquaintance Jeremy also does fine. And I hope Danna makes it to Atlanta safely and comfortably.

Well seems the plan is that I am to stay down here, and stay with Brian's boss if it gets nasty. Joy. We did at least bring Mike, the boss, a generator, so I know they have that much. Oh well. At least I won't be stuck in a back seat listening to Brad's cats wail for 8 hours.

Well by now probably most of you know Hurricane Francis is heading our way. This time it's set to splat our coast first, then go up after South and North Carolina because apperently Posiden hates the Carolinas. (Fuck you Myrtle Beach!) I got a call from the landlord, Sam, stating that he has lumber to board up the windows. Brian is seeking safe harbor for me and the kitties. Might have to go to a hotel. Oi...4 cats trapped in a hotel room. I'm really hoping it peters out over Cuba. Not that I want Cuba to suffer either, but that's where it is. I don't want to leave, and go to a hotel. We really can't afford it right now.

Some good news is that I got hired by the local Sears Portrait Studio. They pay more, and I'm hoping for more hours too. And it's closer to my avocation. I'm not sure if I will like it, because I don't always like portraiture, but in a choice between a sucky job doing nothing I like, and a sucky job doing something I like...Well, you get the point.

Wish me luck on both fronts.

My prayer list for the day.

[livejournal.com profile] blueinatl My thoughts and hopes for a peacefully resolved situation goes with you. You have my affection and sympathy.

[livejournal.com profile] dustbunnies I hope you are recovering well, and that your surgery improves your outlook like you hope it will.

[livejournal.com profile] vernard I hope your stress will have an outcome compatible with all the work you have to do. Moving mountains isn't easy.

[livejournal.com profile] scathedobsidian I hope your pain decreases, and your finger heals quickly.
May the benevolent energies of the universe visit and keep you all.

Things are going better with the cleanup. There are still some bad spots. We went to Walmart to replace the last of the spoiled food. Now our lives personally is roughly back to normal. My thoughts and prayers go out to those poor folks that still don't have power, and water, and especially those that lost their homes altogether. Anyway, while in Walmart it began to storm, and the next thing you know, the lights are flickering. Everyone groaned, and quite afew children grew excited or upset. Poor kids. The really little ones didn't know what was going on. Just that it was scary.

Brian is in a mood. He needs about a thou to get back in school, and while we can get a loan, we may not be able to afford the extra 75 dollars a month. We'll have to see. It might work out since we no longer have the couch payment.

I'm working on getting another job. Hot Topic isn't going to have extra hours again until October. Besides, it's likely I'll be laid off after January. So I'll seek the permanant. There is a hopeful seeming opening at the Sears Portrait Studio. They are redoing their setup so that everthing is in house, and I think so people can purchase their pictures immediately. Send me positive thoughts, people.

Well on the way out to get more sand from the beach for Miss Sparkle, we looked at alot more of the damage. Wow...This hurricane did a number on my happy city. I saw a Taco Bell that was totally trashed. EHEH! Signs were down, awnings twisted, and trees and limbs everywhere. I plan to go tomorrow and take pics.

Also, Sparkle indeed seems to be molting. She dug back out, and I decided to examine her. For my effort I got a pinch. She was unhappy with me. She also had flakey skin along her back.

We made it out of Florida ahead of Charley. The drive was mostly pleasant. I was allowed to nap through half of it. We breached the cloud cover, and the day was really nice. I watched the countryside go by, and kept tormenting Brian with my stream of consciousness conversations. There was alot of kudzu. For those who have never visited the south, Kudzu is a vine that was imported from Japan as a stop measure against erosion..What the people who came up with this didn't know was that kudzu is a voracious vine that can literally grow a foot a day. There are places out in the country where kudzu has overtaken acres of land. If you are lucky, you can see where it's overgrown these old tin roof shacks, and pieces of landscape. It covers trees, and grows up light poles. It's crazy stuff.

One of our little rituals is to stop at this one store on the way home that sells sodas in glass bottles, and buy peach Nehi sodas. They are perfectly cool, and taste so sweet. One of life's little pleasures.
