I saw the new World of Darkness system, and quite frankly I'm in love. It was really hard not to pull out the credit card and get the core book, and Vampire the Requiem. I have heard there is much consternation about going from one system to the next. Particularly people who are in love with clans that no longer exist. All I can say is there is fun, and novelty to be had in the new. Sure there are no longer Tremere, but there are things that make it easier for Non Tremere to learn magic. The original system still works. No one is saying that if you have all the original books, and it still works for you, no one says you can't still use them. No one says you have to choose either. All that is said is that new players will have more access to the new. Being a Mac user, and having been Compelled to use OSX, after learning OS 9, it makes perfect sense. Once I got used to pressing this to do that, instead of the other that I used to, I found it a nicer OS. I feel the new WoD will be much the same.

In the spirit of trying new things, I am posting the descriptions of some of my more famous characters as the new WoD rules would apply.

Olivia Layne:

The jaded beauty of Olivia will remain in Clan Nosferatu. Indeed the clan now is more the flavor I pictured Olivia being. Nos now are less known for being simply, outragiously ugly, as much as terrifying. For the most part they are still physically repulsive, but the rule is no longer hard and fast. Nos now all simply have *something* that makes him repulsive. It can be looks, but it can also be a malignant smell, or palpable taint to their aura.

Olivia in the original was embraced away from the Toreador out of revenge, and when the part of her Embrace that made her hidious, for what ever reason, failed, her sire branded her up with his personal symbol to make certain she would be ugly. In the new system this won't change. Olivia was ment to be a lovely, and stunning Deava, was embraced, and she failed to become physically distorted. Her vengeful Nos sire was impatient to see what other malignancies might develope, and spent the next full night wreaking terrible havok on her lovely form. All the better for showing her to her one time Deava lover.

Olivia, in the new WoD, has adjusted to her role as a Nos. In Elysium she barely bothers to hide that one side of her face is flawlessly beautiful, and the other side is branded with overlapping spades, her sire's symbol. She sometimes wears a veil on that side, but honestly she knows it draws almost as much attention as it deflects. As for her personal brand of Nos-hood, she does have a peculier scent. She smells of roses. Pleasant at first, but increasingly cloying like the scent of flowers on a grave. Those who already enjoy the sensations of fright will most likely still find her pleasant. She is also a progressive minded Carthian Movement girl.

Tomas DeMedici:

Tommy was hard. His original clan is the wonderful Giovanni. I had to give it thought. There is evidence that there will be Necromancy, so until the Giovanni are assigned to someone else, I honestly think they may be a bloodline of the Ventrue. Perry suggested Mehket, due to the desire to find forbidden knowledge, and archive it, but when I think of the flavor of Giovanni, they really are more akin to Ventrue. Barring that, I'm thinking of making him Mehket, with a strong tie to the Circle of the Crone. Tommy would be the type that would be more attracted to the Alister Crowley type of magical knowledge.

And finally,

Teague Gailen:

This one was also tough, but not for the same reasons. Mostly there is a background I was working on with [livejournal.com profile] neintales concerning her character, and she's shown signs of not wanting to like the new system. I still want her character, the delicious Santiago, to be involved, but her vision of him, and mine may not be compatible. None the less, I shall forge on, and she has the option of rejecting the script as they say.

Santi is currently a Malkavian, and in the new WoD, Malkavian's are now a Ventrue Bloodline. Also now Ventrue are the ones who go insane. Nothing says they cannot *begin* that way. Considering Santi's general personality, and attitude, if he hadn't been a Malk, I think Ventrue would have been second runner up. Santi would most certainly be in the Invictus covenant. Might makes Right.

Santi would embrace Teague, a hunter, and priest, out of both nostalgia for a lost true friend, and hate of Teague's avocation. Teague would be kept for a very long time, being torn down and built up again, a twisted little phoenix. Eventually he would either escape, or be capriciously released, and flee for the familiar structure and philosophy of the Lancea Sanctum.

I know what you mean about people not liking the new system. I'm almost tempted to pick it up and present it to you like the head of an enemy ^-^

Feel free. Just give me a heads up if you decide to do so. I'll even take it off your tab. ;) Maybe that can be clown ransom.
