How not to be a guest

teagueAt about 0015 an older gentleman showed up at the front doors. He was out of breath, and angry. He said, "Why did you lock us out??" I could tell this was going to be fun.
"Lock you out?" I queried.
"Yes, my wife and I went for a walk on the beach, and when we came back the damned gate was locked! I had to climb over the fense just to get in!" This guy was 60 if he was a day. I'm trying to not say, "You climbing the fense should be celebrated.."
Anyway, he goes on, "You have to unlock the gate. She's still out there waiting!" He's fairly vibrating. "I had to climb the fence, and I almost gave myself a heart attack!" He's clutching his chest. My brain is of course hissing, "You are god damned 60 something! Why the *fuck* did you do something that stupid??" But my body is going, "Yes, Sir, ok, I'm getting the keys, just go back out of the office, I have to lock up."
So, we go out. She's not out there. He goes to look for her. *She's* climbed the fence. Fortunately she is not what I pictured, but is rather spry, and she's also drunkish. Not totally wasted, but I can tell she's a little off.
The both start bitching at me for locking the gate, which is *supposed to be locked* by 2300. Apparently they walked in and told/asked Rob, the second shift guy who is leaving, that they had this plan to walk on the beach. And Rob said it was no problem. Well...It wasn't a problem, because the beach is public in any case, but there are gaps in the story, like *when* they asked, and how long ago the walk was. Worst case, Rob didn't give a shit what they did. Best case, they came in so early that Rob figured they were back
So there I was, taking the heat, and they are both chewing my ass. I'm playing firefighter, pretty much agreeing with them. Yes, it sucks, no he should have told you when it closes, feel free to take it up with the manager, Rob sucks, so sorry. Heh. I wanted to say, "You two are fucking ADULTS, and not even dumb little teenagers! If you had just walked ONE FUCKING BLOCK SOUTH you would have seen a public access!"
People fucking kill me sometimes.
I lighter news, Brian bought me an iPod Shuffle. I want to get a yellow skin for it and call it my iPeep. It's charging at home, and I hope to soon fill it with happy music!
