Is it ok...
Apr. 13th, 2007 11:41 amIs it ok for me to not give two wet farts in a crowded car about Imus? I'm being serious here. I never listened to the guy. I find talk radio to be extremely boring. I was aware of him. I had gathered that he was the more conservative, or political version of Howard Stern. I'd rather listen to mice fuck than to listen to political talk radio, so maybe my opinion isn't worth much here, but honestly, I'm over it. I half way hope he has a wonderful career waiting for him next to Howard Stern. Not because I think what he said was right, or warranted, but because the whole furor was just plain hypocritical. Howard Stern, for over a decade, basically disrespected women openly, and exploited various attention seekers he found comical. His radio booth looked like what might happen if the strip club opened a freak show. You know what? If you don't want a public figure to call a group of women "nappy headed ho's", or trash young black women, how about going after the rap industry? Or is this a, "That's OUR word" argument?
If there is anything I would point out that's any different from what I've seen already posed on other blogs, it's this. What has happened to Imus is not about free speech. No one has arrested him, and so far, no legal action has sanctioned him. (As far as I know. The team may have, or want to have a lawsuit, but even with grounds, that would be personal, not constitutional.) It's not about Free Speech. It's about Free Enterprise. Imus wasn't fired because the legislators had the big fit. He was fired because his bad PR caused major companies to threaten to take money away from his bosses.
Say hello to the 4th branch of the Government, people.
