Topic of the Day

Hmm...Wow. Most of the people on my friends list have heard about the journal threatening the president. I've read the links, and seen the screencap of the original post. All I can say is poor kid, and poor Secret Service guys. For those of you who *didn't* know, yes the Secret Service *has* to investigate *any* potential threat that is reported. No, they don't have the luxury of going, "Well this kid's just blowing off steam." They find that out when they go to meet the potential threat. The vast majority I am sure are steam blowers. Most of the rest are your mentally ill who are harmless. But see...Here is the deal. There are people in this country who genuinely believe that the president, no matter who it is, is sending people into their house to put transmitters in their teeth. There are people who believe in saving unborn fetuses so strongly that they'll murder an abortion doctor, or bomb a clinic with people inside of it. These people generally wouldn't write about it in a blog, but who knows...they *could*. So I'm not going to bash the young lady for saying what she said. If you read my post about my last experience in a theater, I guess I'm glad that AMC doesn't have secret service. People get angry, and they say things. I'm not going to bash the Secret Service. They did their jobs. I will make just afew little points.

1) There are limits to Freedom of Speech. You are not supposed to harrass anyone constantly and verbally. You are not supposed to commit Libel, or Slander. These are legal terms. Libel is when you print something untrue for the purpose of harming another's reputation, or livelihood. It is different from an opinion. Example: If I said Pete was a redneck dumbass, that would be opinion. If I said he raped donkies in mexico, and ran a nun pornography ring, and I was *serious*, that would be libel. If I said I had pictues of him in women's clothing..that would be true! God Bless America.

2) The single greatest threat to Freedom of Speech is not anyone in another country. Until someone gets the balls to actually send *their own* planes over, and actually *bomb* us the way we bomb other people, we are the single greatest threat to our own freedoms. When you tell you representatives that they can take freedoms from you to "keep you safe", then you have to live with it, or find new reps to give it back to you. If that process chaps your ass, then don't give up your freedom. If you are too lazy to care, then you don't deserve freedom.

3) And this just addresses the spacific incident of the girls lj. To the asshole who reported her; shame on you! Shame On You. Not only were you an underhanded little skeeze, because no one with half a brain would have read that post and believe that kid really wanted to threaten the president. You weren't a concerned citizen. You were just a shitheel. And not only should you be ashamed for making a poor girl, a friend of a friend, if not your friend, miserable and impacting her life until she dies, but MY MONEY went towards paying the cost of that visit. Do you know what Secret Service make? I don't, but I hope it's a good living. And I don't mind if .002 cents of my money goes towards paying a person to shove the president into a car when some jerk is shooting at him, but I resent that I helped pay for them to go bother some kid on an internet rant. If you had a decent bone in your body, you would fess up and APPOLOGIZE. Not just to her, but to the whole Live Journal community, because now everyone is scared, thinking there are people in the Pentagon reading blogs, looking for words like Bomb, and Aryan.
